Rory Schnurr was born and raised in Monroe County, with family roots stretching back to the 1830’s. Rory and his wife, Christine, decided to move back to the Rochester area from New York City a year and a half ago. They chose Sweden as the perfect destination for a home for the rest of their lives, after comparing it to other communities throughout the region. They found that the mix of village, suburbs, and farms provided a uniquely appealing environment.
Rory’s career is divided between the private and public sectors. As an attorney, he has represented the interests of clients large and small, including municipalities, school districts, multi-national corporations, labor unions and individuals from very diverse walks of life. In addition to the government, Rory has worked in the energy industry, the security industry, the construction industry and the healthcare industry. Since returning, Rory has represented those unable to afford legal representation in criminal matters.
Much of Rory’s work experience has been focused on labor and employee relations, which he studied at Le Moyne College in Syracuse. Rory earned his law degree from St. John’s University.
Rory wants to use his varied experience as representative of the people of the Town of Sweden. His focus will be to engage the community to make sure all segments of our population get their voices heard. Decisions impacting the unique character of our community should reflect consideration of the interests of our entire community. Growth and development are essential and inevitable for our town; however, maintaining balance among all residents’ interests will ensure that we maintain the wonderful character of Sweden.
Rory and Christine are proud parents and grandparents who cherish their deep roots and family values within the Sweden community.
Rory believes in strengthening community engagement, supporting thoughtful development, and maintaining Sweden’s balance between growth and preservation. His commitment is to ensure every voice in our town is heard, respected, and represented in the decision-making process.
